Rabeprazole sodium, 2-{[[4-(3-methoxypropoxy)-3-methyl-2-pyridinyl]methyl] sulfinyl}-1H-benzimidazole sodium, is a fast-acting proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It inhibits gastric acid secretion by interacting with (H+/K+)-ATP in gastric parietal cells, and is used clinically for the treatment of gastric acid related diseases such as ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, gastroesophageal reflux diseases and zollinger-ellison syndrome. It has shown a high eradication rate of helicobacter pylori when associated with antimicrobial therapy.
